Survey Report Software: Signable PDFs from the Numbers on Screen

A volume is only finished when someone can sign for it. STREAM turns each analysis into a signable PDF that carries the same numbers you saw on screen, a traceable report number, your company logo, the coordinate system, the unit system and a signature block — stockpiles, blast patterns, ponding and catchments, terrain statistics, change detection, slope and dump design, pit planning, ore resources, channels and road corridors. Alongside them it prints scaled map sheets on A4, A3 or A2. All of it on your own machine, offline.

What makes a survey report defensible?

Three things: the reader must be able to tell where the numbers came from, the document must not quietly disagree with the software that produced it, and anything that was not measured must be visibly absent rather than shown as zero.

STREAM enforces those as rules rather than conventions. A report never runs a second calculation — what is on screen is what is in the document. An unmeasured cell prints a dash, never a zero. The page count says "Page 3 of 12" only when the total is actually known. And every page declares the unit system in its footer, so a figure can never be read in the wrong units.

The rest is provenance: a report number made of a type prefix and a timestamp, the coordinate system, the report date, the application version, your company logo and the name of whoever prepared it, in a header and signature block that look the same in every report type.

One document shell, every report type

Watermark, header with your company logo and the report type, a report number, a metadata strip, KPI cards for the numbers that carry the decision, numbered section badges, a Method and Notes box explaining how the calculation was done, and a signature block of two or three boxes — Prepared, Checked, Approved. Every report speaks the same visual language, so a reader who has seen one can read all of them.

Traceable report numbers

Each report type has its own prefix and a timestamp: stockpile, blast pattern, ponding and catchment, terrain measurement, change detection, slope and dump, pit planning. Two reports produced on the same day are separated by the minute. An ore resource report carries the block model record's own identity instead, and where a report type has no number the line is simply not drawn rather than left blank.

Units declared on every page

The footer of every page states whether the document is metric or imperial, in full, and it can never be skipped or shortened. Reports themselves always print metric even when the application is running in imperial mode, and the footer says so — a number can be checked, but only if you know what it is measured in.

Numbers formatted the way you saw them

Figures and dates follow the application's interface language: if the screen shows 770.500 m³ then the PDF shows 770.500 m³, with the thousands separator always on. A long coordinate system label or a seven-figure volume that will not fit its box is reduced in size, and only truncated with an ellipsis if it still will not fit.

Reports written in the interface language

Report text is translated to whatever language the application is running in, with a separate uppercase mapping so Turkish letters transform correctly. If a dictionary is missing, the report prints the raw key and logs a warning once — it never silently falls back to another language.

Honest scope notes

Each report states what it does not do. The slope and dump report says STREAM does not compute a factor of safety and that the angle limits are user inputs. The ore resource report says STREAM does not do geostatistical estimation, pit limit optimisation or production scheduling. The blast report excludes charge, stemming, delay sequence, fragmentation and vibration.

Scaled map sheets, not just reports

The print composer prints what is on screen onto a proper sheet: A4, A3 or A2, portrait or landscape, at automatic scale or a fixed 1:1000 through 1:10000. Draw the sheet area with two clicks on the terrain, add a north arrow, a scale bar and a legend, and blend the open analysis maps — streams, ponding, flow accumulation, catchments, slope, aspect, viewshed, cut and fill — over the terrain base. A live preview shows the page exactly as it will print.

Generated in the background, never silently

Map-heavy reports build on a background job with a progress notice, and the result is always announced — the file was written, or it could not be. The .pdf extension is completed for you if you leave it out, and the PDF's own metadata records STREAM and its version as the creator, with the report type and subject as the document title.

How to produce a signed report in STREAM

    Fill in your identity once

    In Settings ▸ Report, enter the name and title that should appear on the signature line and choose your company logo. Both are used by every report and by the map sheet header.

    Run the analysis

    Compute the stockpile volumes, the change detection, the slope statistics, the ponding, the pit plan — whatever the report is about. The report will carry these numbers, not recompute them.

    Press the report button

    Each module has its own PDF Report button in its output group. Choose where to save; the extension is added if you leave it off.

    Read the scope note

    Every report contains a Method and Notes box and a scope statement. Check that what it excludes matches what you are claiming in the covering document.

    Add a map sheet if the reader needs a plan

    Open the print composer, choose the paper size, orientation and scale, draw the sheet area on the terrain, and turn on the north arrow, scale bar and legend. The preview is the page.

    Sign it

    The signature block prints Prepared, Checked and Approved boxes. The prepared-by name comes from your settings; the remaining boxes are for the people who put their name to the number.

Frequently asked questions

What is survey report software?

Software that turns a measurement into a document somebody can sign: the numbers, where they came from, the coordinate system, the units, the method and a signature block. STREAM produces one for each of its analyses — stockpiles, blast patterns, hydrology, terrain statistics, change detection, slope and dump design, pit planning, ore resources, channels and road corridors.

Can the report disagree with what I saw on screen?

No, by design. A report never runs a second calculation; it prints what the analysis produced. That rule is what makes the document checkable — if you doubt a figure, you can reproduce it on screen rather than wondering which of the two is right.

What happens to values that were not measured?

They print as a dash. A zero would be a claim that something was measured and came out at nothing, which is a different statement. The same applies to page numbering: the total appears only when it is actually known.

Are reports in metric or imperial?

Reports always print metric, even when the application is running in imperial mode, and every page declares the unit system in its footer. The declaration is never shortened or skipped, so a figure cannot be read in the wrong units.

Can I put my company logo on a report?

Yes. In Settings ▸ Report choose a PNG, JPG or BMP logo and enter the name and title for the signature line. Both appear in every PDF report and on the map sheet header. If no logo is set, nothing is drawn in its place.

What is a report number and where does it come from?

A type prefix plus a timestamp, so two reports made on the same day are still distinguishable by the minute. An ore resource report uses the block model record's own identity instead, and report types that carry no number simply omit the line rather than printing an empty one.

Does a report say what it cannot do?

Draw the sheet area with two clicks, and add a north arrow, a scale bar and a legend. It is a map sheet, not a report, and STREAM names the button accordingly.

Can analysis overlays go on the map sheet?

Yes. The open analysis maps — streams, ponding, flow accumulation, catchments, slope, aspect, viewshed, cut and fill — are blended over the terrain base of the sheet, with the layer's own opacity applied once rather than twice, and pixels outside the analysis extent left as the base.

Is anything sent to a server to make a report?

No. The PDF is generated on your machine, from data already on your machine. Nothing is uploaded, and the report is written wherever you chose to save it.
